Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
